THE NEW SONGS!
Past
Releases: Our
first virtual album of 4 Ishmael Moongoose songs
dealt with the now-past November '04 presidential
election. If
you are of a strongly masochistic bent and
want to feel a little extra humiliation
surrounding the Great Disappointment, go
ahead and check them out here.
* I know the question of copyright protection
and intellectual property ownership is a tricky
one, especially
for the progressive
and activist community as represented by the great efforts of IndyMedia.org among
others. For works with an explicit social action intent, my goal is to make
artistic contributions that can be disseminated rapidly and with minimal complications.
Yet even (or perhaps especially) with such songs, there remains important questions
of responsible stewardship; and in the current legal and cultural environment
surrendering all control over the song is not necessarily the best path. As
a songwriter whose livehihood depends for the present on mechanisms of intellectual
property law, I can't be casual or cavalier
about the many complex
issues of sharing information, content, and creative works. As
of now, the Creative
Commons approach seems the best starting point.
